Should you sign the back of your credit cards?
Here's our official advice on signing the strip on the back: Don't sign it.
It's useless as a deterrent, as anyone who takes your card then has a
sample of your signature which they can not only use on any charge slip,
but on your checks as well. However, do not leave the white strip blank.
In that space, write: "Ask For Picture ID," |

Prank - Credit card signatures are a useless mechanism
"Finally, I know of no law that says your signature has to be in your
own alphabet. So I found a website which converted my name to Egyptian
hieroglyphics. Although "John Hargrave" was too long to remember,
"John" was just snake, bird, caterpillar." |

Reddit: Twenty-Somethings Drowning In A Sea Of Debt
"I live in a college town. I can see how most of the college students live. I
can see where once three students in a dorm room, 60 people sharing a
bathroom was the norm and now 1, 2, or 3 people in a luxury apartment (a
bedroom each of course) is. I can see that our car is older than most of the
ones in the student lots (overflowing despite a fabulous free bus system)." |

msn money: When banks turn evil
"Let's say you have $500 in your account, and you write checks for $10,
$55 and $450. If the bank processed from smallest to largest, only one
overdraft fee would be generated. By processing them from largest to
smallest, two bounce fees can be collected." |

Slashdot: Credit Card Security Standard Issued
"The Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council, the organization
that sets technical requirements for processing credit- and debit-cards,
Wednesday issued revised security rules, while also indicating next year it
will focus on new guidelines for end-to-end encryption, payment machines
and virtualization. PCI adherence has been pushed big time in the industry
to help avoid more big breaches such as the one involving TJX.
Those familiar with the standard say it could be expensive to implement and
that there are some things those using wireless LANs will need to pay especi-
ally close attention to." |

Why Do So Many Credit Card Companies Have a Wilmington, Delaware Address?
"Led primarily by the Governor Pierre DuPont, in the early 1980s, Delaware
attempted to lure large banks away from New York and other large financial
companies by dramatically redrafting tax laws for banking industries. Laws
also changed to allow banks to charge any interest they wished on credit cards." |

Slashdot - 2010 Bug Plagues Germany
"According the Guardian, some 30 million chip and pin cards in Germany
have been affected by a programming failure, which saw the microchips in
cards unable to recognize the year change. The bug has left millions of cre-
dit and debit card users unable to withdraw money or make purchases, and
has stranded many on holiday. French card manufacturer Gemalto accepted
responsibility for the fault, 'which it is estimated will cost €300m (£270m)
to rectify.' They claim cards in other countries made by Gemalto are unaf-
fected." |
